The Area

Dundream is located near facilities to watersports, long trail walks, excellent golfing, swimming, leisure centre facilities and yachting. The nearest village Kirkcolm is 2½ miles and has the The Blue Peter Hotel which was Scottish Pub of the Year 2007.  Quiet country roads suitable for cycling and mountain-biking, Elaine will recommend local cycle routes on request.

The nearest beach is Lady Bay, 1½ miles away for walking and swimming with Dally Bay, the shores of Loch Ryan and Killantringan also within easy reach. Windsurfing and watersports can be carried out from Wig Bay six miles away on the shores of Loch Ryan. There is a yacht club at Wig Bay and boat marina for mooring in Stranraer. The shores of Loch Ryan are popular for bird-watching. The scaur is a sandy bank which projects out at low tide into the middle of Loch Ryan accessible from Kirkcolm.

Excellent golfing facilities abound. The closest course is Stranraer with its classic 18 hole championship golf course only five miles away.  Other golf courses within easy traveling distance include Lagganmore, a newly opened Golf Academy, Castle Kennedy, Portpatrick, Glenluce and only 45 minutes drive takes you to the Open course at Turnberry.

Stranraer with a population of 15,000 is 10 miles away with leisure centre, indoor swimming pool, small cinema, art gallery and museum.

Visits to numerous local gardens are within easy access: famous Port Logan botanical gardens, Dunskey, Portpatrick; Glenwhan, Dunragit; Lochinch, Castle Kennedy and Ardwell.

Another high quality restaurant is Knockinaam Lodge Hotel, near Portpatrick and on the road to Girvan is the Michelin Star Glenapp Castle at Ballantrae.

Belfast city accessible for a day trip on StenaLine fast speed ferry accessed from Cairnryan.

Antrim Coast with stunning scenery can be accessed from P & O ferry at Cairnryan.

Southern Upland Way walk commences at Portpatrick.

Other tourist attractions within easy traveling distance include: Cream O’ Galloway organic ice-cream farm with outdoor activities; Galloway forest park and hills; Wigtown book town; Mull of Galloway with lighthouse and bird sanctuary; Gemrock museum, Creetown and Threave Gardens, Castle Douglas and Lagganmore Outdoor Centre zip slide.
